Ticks and fleas are one of the most common problems for dogs across India, especially in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai during the monsoon and post-monsoon months. If your dog spends time outdoors, on grass, or near other animals, the risk of a tick infestation is high — and catching it early makes all the difference.
Why ticks and fleas are a serious problem in India
India's warm, humid climate creates ideal conditions for ticks and fleas to thrive year-round. Unlike colder countries where ticks go dormant in winter, Indian dogs face exposure in almost every season. Ticks can transmit serious diseases including Canine Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis (tick fever), and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. A single engorged tick can drop hundreds of eggs in your home.
Fleas cause intense itching, skin infections, and tapeworm infestations. Flea allergy dermatitis — an allergic reaction to flea saliva — is one of the most common reasons dogs develop hot spots and lose coat quality.
How to check your dog for ticks
Run your fingers slowly through your dog's coat, paying close attention to between the toes and under the paw pads, inside and around the ears, around the collar and neck area, the groin and armpits, and around the tail base. Ticks feel like small, hard bumps. An engorged tick will be larger — sometimes the size of a pea. Never crush a tick with your fingers; use fine-tipped tweezers and pull firmly upward without twisting.
Building a daily protection routine
The most effective protection is layered: a shampoo that clears existing pests combined with a daily spray that keeps new ones away.
Step 1 — Weekly bath with Anti-Tick and Flea Shampoo. The Anistachio Pet Anti-Tick and Flea Shampoo is formulated with neem leaf extract, tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, lemongrass oil, and turmeric extract. Lather thoroughly, leave on for 2–3 minutes, and rinse. Paraben-free, sulfate-free, and pH-balanced for canine skin.
Step 2 — Daily Tick Repellent Spray. After walks, spray the Anistachio Tick Repellent Spray onto your dog's coat. The formula contains neem oil, citronella oil, eucalyptus oil, lemongrass oil, aloe vera extract, tulsi extract, and shikakai extract. Safe for daily use on dogs and cats.
Step 3 — Paw care after walks. Ticks often enter through the paws. After cleaning paws, apply Anistachio Paw Balm to moisturise and protect cracked or dry paw pads.
